BabyLoss Awareness Week 2021

Day after day this week, I have been sitting with women as they navigate what Baby Loss Awareness Week means for them. Some embrace it, others do not wish to engage, and others dislike it. This year in particular, I have noticed a shift away from wanting to participate and engage. This shift does not represent a disengaging with grief, but rather a shift from public grieving. As a therapist, I have been trusted with some of the most precious and intimate experiences, and I feel deeply humbled and honoured to hear about the death of their baby.
Today marks the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week. There will be a global wave of light between 7pm-8pm local time. Many people, including bereaved parents will be lighting a candle in the name of their child. As social media lights up with these precious images, remember that behind most of these flames is a grieving person or family. The hope is, that this wave of light will help those grieving the death of their baby to experience a sense of community.
I have my candle burning, and my heart goes out to all who are living with grief #blaw2021 #BabyLoss #BabyLossAwarenessWeek2021 #NeverForgotten #pregnancyloss #waveoflight2021
